A TASTE OF LUXURY
FROM UGANDA
COCOA
Uganda is now the 8th largest supplier in the world of quality cocoa beans. It is home to an ideal climate for growing cocoa, as the perennial crop responds well in rainy, tropical areas. The beans thrive under shade along consistent rainfall, which is abundantly consistent in the growing regions of the country where the conditions are suitable for cultivation. These lie mainly in the west near Bundibugyo and also the centreal, southeastern and southwestern regions. but also some parts of the eastern region mainly in Busoga.
Ugandan cocoa is not typically blended in single-origin blends, more-so a mixed-origin blend, but the typical production of Forastero & Trinitario beans provides quite a unique tasting experience. Cocoa production has been on the rise in the past few years, and more chocolate makers are expressing their interest in enhancing the growing opportunities for the local farmers.
